Description: In 1927 eighteen-year-old Annie McGairy arrives in a midwestern university town to marry her boyfriend, Carl Brown, who is studying law. Back in Brooklyn, both sets of parents react badly to the news and cut off all support. Despite the struggle to make ends meet, the couple’s good spirits keep them going. As Carl finishes his law degree, Annie, who never went to high school, pursues her dream of becoming a writer. Some strong language.
