Accessible World Presents So You Want To Buy A Computer On Classroom Of The Air with Rick Harmon Hosted on Tuesday, May 17, 2011

You’ve heard all about how much easier computers have made the lives of your friends and family. You’ve heard about Spam, the internet, and you know that tweeting doesn’t have a thing to do with birds conversing outside in your back yard. You’ve heard all the daunting words like giga bytes, mega bytes, terra bytes, Jaws and Window Eyes, Spam,Facebook, Send Space, and Twitter too. Friends speak glowingly of doing internet research and listening to internet radio around the world, but with all that looms before you as a new computer user, is there too much to learn?

Accessible World Presents All Things Coffee On Classroom Of The Air with Gerry Leary Hosted on Tuesday, April 19, 2011

I can’t get through the beginning of any morning without it. Friends say I am not worth talking to before I have had a cup or two and will enquire whether I have had any before embarking on any topic of discussion in which they need my attention and participation. What can so affect my morning? Coffee, of course.

On the next Classroom Of The Air, we will hear about all things coffee from Gerry Leary, owner and proprietor of Unseen Bean. His company makes the morning a pleasant and welcome experience through the products he sells.

ACCESSIBLE WORLD PRESENTS CLASSROOM OF THE AIR, FINDING AND KEEPING VOLUNTEERS with Deborah Kendridk Hosted on Wednesday, February 16, 2011

No matter how competent we are as blind people, there are certain tasks that require sight. For some of us those tasks include reading the mail, paying bills, or labeling spices. For others, assistance is needed in getting to and conquering grocery shopping or buying spiffy new clothes at the mall. Maybe you need someone with eyesight to help organize your photo albums or inspect suit jackets for dry cleaning, or to “spot” you while you sort and label tools, repair a car engine, or fill those boiled mason jars with homemade preserves.

ACCESSIBLE WORLD CLASSROOM OF THE AIR PRESENTS THE ETIQUETTE OF EATING OUT with Linn Sorge and Doug Anzlovar Hosted on Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Eating out as a blind person can present some real challenges. How does one deal with wait staff who ask your friends what you will be having. Do sighted people have problems with salads containing pieces of lettuce the size of parachutes? And what about buffets. Entertaining guests for dinner at home can also present some challenges. Preparation, socializing and trying to clean up with several people in your kitchen trying to help can add some stress to your evening. Our January Classroom of the Air presentation will deal with these issues and more.
