CLASSROOM OF THE AIR THINKING ABOUT THE UNTHINKABLE Hosted on Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Jenine Stanley will take you through the planning process to prepare for disasters, both global and personal. There are three types of disasters, those requiring evacuation, those requiring staying put and those of a personal nature. Knowing what to do and having an action plan helps decrease stress during what will be an inherently stressful time. What kinds of information should you prepare for regarding your disability, your assistance dog, your adaptive equipment? How do you handle being evacuated? How can you get involved in local emergency preparedness drills and other efforts?

THE CLASSROOM OF THE AIR FEATURES THE TOPIC: WHEN CHRISTMAS WAS BANNED IN ENGLAND Hosted on Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Do you know there was a time in England when Christmas was banned. Hard though it is to imagine, during the time of Oliver Cromwell, that is what happened. On the next Classroom Of The Air, Nan Hawthorne, author of several historical novels, will tell us why this decision was made. If you find yourself thinking you couldn’t imagine a year without Christmas, the British couldn’t either. Did they find ways to celebrate secretly? Why was Oliver Cromwell so opposed to its celebration? Did he live as he expected everyone else to, or was he a contradiction and a law unto himself?
