SPOTLIGHT ON MUSIC PRESENTS MAUREEN SCHULZ, MY VIEWS ON FOLK MUSIC

As the subject of folk music is so wide ranging, I want to talk about folk music from my personal point of view.-- I grew up with it in the 70s, where I heard British folk mostly.-- I will give some examples of songs that tell stories, songs that live on harmony, also perhaps of the transition to more varied instruments.-- From there we'll go back and touch on American folk music, which of course had its time of popularity in the 60s, and we'll look at the beginnings of folk music in the states with the labor movement in the 30s.-- Is folk music alive and well today? I'll finish off trying to answer that question.--
