The Accessible World News Wire, Indianapolis, Indiana USA
During September, Apple (who are world renowned for their range of iPod products and an Internet Store from where music and movies can be downloaded), made two startling announcements.
First, they stated that the iTunes software for transferring material to an iPod, and the vehicle for accessing their Store, contained a level of accessibility for screen-reader users. Second, the new range of Apple's iPod Nano products gives the ability for a visually impaired person to have access to audio track titles and menus through spoken prompts.
Brian Hartgen from T&T Consultancy Ltd is the developer of J-Tunes, linking JAWS for windows and iTunes together. During 2005, he created the Blind iPod Mailing List in order that the visually impaired community can discuss all aspects of using iPods, iTunes and other portable media players.
Anna Dresner has written books on the subject of portable media players for the National Braille Press and she has considerable knowledge about the players with their respective transfer software.
Brian and Anna will deliver a presentation concerning the new innovations offered within iTunes and the new iPod Nano. During the second part of the presentation however, both presenters welcome the opportunity to take questions from the audience about all aspects of portable media players, downloading music, software to transfer items to players, and more. So if there is a question on this subject you have always wanted the answer to, now is your chance. They cannot promise to answer all the questions but with a number of years' experience between them in this field they are very willing to try!
