Regardless of our political bias, most will agree that elections, whether local, state, or national, do affect the population of each jurisdiction in some way. So it is natural that the upcoming presidential election in the United States is a major topic of discussion everywhere including this week’s Books and Beyond, the internet talk show hosted by Bonnie Blose and sponsored by the Accessible World. The interview with Edwin Cooney, however, will not recap the merits of current candidates but will take a look at the election process itself. Mr. Cooney, a student of American, modern European and Medieval European history by academic training and lifelong interest, will answer such questions as:

Is voting the foundation of our democracy as some believe?

Is voting worth the effort and does every single vote really make a difference?

Is the President of the United States elected by popular vote?

If there is a tie in the Electoral College, who casts the deciding vote?

In his column “Cooney’s Corner”, located at www.cooneyscorner.blogspot.com, he writes on topics such as history, current events, human interest stories, personal experiences and miscellaneous topics. Anyone interested in receiving these by email free of charge may request them by sending a message to edwincooney@sbcglobal.net.

As time permits, the audience will have the opportunity to chat personally with Mr. Cooney.
